Police in Njeru Municipality is investigating circumstances under which a man identified as Geoffrey Mugoya and his brother Mark Mayende allegedly hit to death their one year and seven months old step son Amir Kasiga.
It is alleged that Mugoya a brick layer and resident of konko B in Wakisi division Njeru Municipality Buikwe District hit to death his step son after engaging in prolonged quarrel with the wife identified as Irene Nakayima.
The matter was reported to Kitigoma police post which with support from Njeru police station have visited the scene recovering exhibits before taking the body to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem and later the handed it over to the family for burial.
According to Hellen Butoto, the Sssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson, Nakamiya was once married to Mugoya Geoffrey for a period of 10 years and later separated after producing three children and then went back to her parents’ home in Butalegya district.
While at Butalegya she engaged in another relationship leading to the birth of Kasiga [deceased] before Mugoya [step father] went and begged her to come back to his home as a wife but she returned with her baby.
Nakayima told police that the quarrel started when the brother to the husband found her standing with Sam Kawoya the farm manager of Mbabazi Gloria’s piggery project at kitigoma to negotiating pig prices since she wanted to buy one.
She reported that immediately Mayende started beating Kawoya questioning his relationship with the sister in-law before he turned to her. In the process Nakamiya run back to home where but Mayende followed her accusing her for being a prostitute on top of saying they did not want her new born baby at home.
Luckily Nakayima was saved by the husband who told her to return the baby to the grandmother. After hearing that her child was not needed at home, she left him sleeping and went to buy airtime to communicate with the mother [grandmother to the baby] about the matter but on return had the elder children crying saying that their father had killed their brother.
Butoto says the two suspects now Mugoya and Mayende are on the run but police are ensuring their search and once they are arrested will be charged with murder. She notes that also Kawooya the farm manger is arrested to help in investigations.
