Parliament Releases Programme for Swearing-In of New MPs

Parliament of Uganda

The Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Kasaija Mwesige, has issued the official programme for the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament following the conclusion of the 2026 general elections.

According to the notice, the swearing-in exercise will take place from May 13 to May 15, 2026, at Parliament of Uganda. During the three-day event, the Clerk will administer both the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of a Member of Parliament to all duly elected legislators.

The programme follows the successful conduct of parliamentary elections by the Electoral Commission of Uganda on January 15, 2026, including polls for representatives of Special Interest Groups.

The swearing-in will be conducted in phases, with Members-elect taking their oaths in alphabetical order.

Each day’s proceedings will run from 8:00am to 6:30pm, with a lunch break scheduled between 1:30pm and 2:00pm.

The Clerk has directed that each Member-elect be accompanied by no more than three guests, while those with disabilities will be allowed an additional aide. He also emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the programme.

In preparation for the ceremony, Members-elect have been instructed to collect their invitation cards, programme booklets, and biodata forms from the Office of the Clerk between May 4 and May 5, 2026, during official working hours.

Completed biodata forms are to be submitted to Room 112 on the first floor of the South Wing at Parliament or handed in at the registration desk on the day of swearing-in.

The swearing-in marks a key constitutional step before the commencement of the 12th Parliament, formally ushering in a new cohort of legislators.
