Mukono district covid-19 task force declined to operationalize ambulances donated by politicians branded with their pictures and other related political party colour.
The District Health Officer-DHO Steven Mulindwa officially introduced to the covid-19 task force an ambulance donated by the District Woman Member of Parliament Hanifah Nabukeera to ease responses and referrals of patients.
However, the Resident District Commissioner Fatumah Ndisaba declined its operationalization before advising every politician willing to donate such vehicles to as well surrender all official documents to the Chief Administrative Officer.
“Such donations can only be put to use by government entities after the donors accept to go through the right processes that officially requires handing over documents of ownership to the CAO at the same time make them free from political party brands.
She notes that all members willing to donate should not bother branding such vehicles with party colours or their pictures.
“It is after handing over to the administration that the district can care for expenses such as servicing and other necessities required for its movement such as drivers, medical attendants and fuel.”
So far Mukono MPs who purchased ambulances for the district include Nabukeera, Abudallah Kiwanuka of Mukono North and Fred Ssimbwa of Nakifuma County.
These ambulances are painted with the National Unity Platform colours, donor’s pictures and that of Robert Kyagulanyi, the NUP principal.
Betty Nambooze of Mukono Municipality and the former Mukono South Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga earlier purchased and reserved the maintenance responsibilities and payments of drivers.
Their ambulances though lack medical personnel to assist patients but can pick and transport them to health facilities.
Richard Tamale a resident at Mukono Central Division says the RDC is just into useless political games at the time ambulances are more needed in the district.
