Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, held a landmark meeting with his Algerian Counterpart Gen. Said Chanegriha aimed at enhancing military cooperation and strengthening the strategic partnership between Uganda and Algeria.
This meeting focused on shared security priorities, regional stability and advancing defence collaboration for the benefit of both Nations and the African continent.
Gen. Muhoozi was accompanied by Uganda’s Ambassador to Algeria, His Excellency John Chrysostom Alintuma Nsambu, top ranking Uganda Generals and distinguished military attaches from Uganda’s Embassy in Algeria.
Since Ambassador Nsambu’s appointment, Uganda-Algeria relations have grown and thrived, expanding from economic diplomacy to now including critical military and security collaboration.
This progress highlights the deepening ties between the two Nations and their mutual commitment to peace, stability and shared prosperity.
His Excellence Alintuma Nsambu is the Uganda’s consulate to Algeria and the Maghreb region and Uganda’s former Minister of State for ICT whose efforts introduced mobile money services in the country, computers, National identity cards and many other digital innovations.

Algeria’s Army General Said CHANEGRIHA, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army, at the headquarters of the National People’s Army General Staff, on Tuesday received Army General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces, who is on a working visit to Algeria, at the head of a high-level military delegation.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense, Force Commanders, Heads of Departments and Central Directors of the National People’s Army General Staff and the Ministry of National Defense, as well as members of the Ugandan delegation.
During this meeting, the two parties examined the opportunities for bilateral military cooperation, as well as ways and means of consolidating coordination on issues of common interest. They also discussed the security challenges facing the world in general and the African continent in particular, and exchanged views on various current issues.
Algeria’s Army General welcomed welcomed the level reached by bilateral relations between Algeria and Uganda in recent years which have materialized by the density of exchanges of visits between the two countries.
General Said Chanegriha, said the official visit made by the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Museveni to Algeria, in March 2023, at the invitation of his brother, Mr. Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE, President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, gave a strong impetus and real dynamic to the process of cooperation relations between the two countries, particularly in the area of strengthening their common commitment to African issues and the establishment of peace, security and development across the continent.

The Algerian Army General stressed the full willingness of the ANP to move forward on the path of developing military cooperation, in realizing the strategic vision of the leaders of the two countries.
“Within the ANP, we are keen to implement the strategic vision of the leaders of the two countries, aimed at promoting partnership between our respective armies, through the establishment of an effective dynamic in the field of military cooperation and the establishment of adequate mechanisms to do so.” Gen. Said narrated.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, also praised the quality of hospitality offered to him and his delegation, expressed satisfaction with the strong will displayed by the Algerian side to strengthen cooperation relations and consultations between the two countries on issues of common interest, capable of contributing to security and stability on the African continent.
