When a man and woman get married, they become one and usually plan together.
This has been witnessed in many households, but in Greater Masaka, one couple is taking this unity to a whole new level. They are planning to conquer Uganda’s political stage, but on opposite sides.
In what can only be described as a political plot twist, Gonzaga Muteesaasira and his fiancée, Shakirah Nakato, have decided that ‘if you can’t beat them, join them, then make sure you’re prepared to win either way’.
Muteesaasira is busy building his campaign to secure the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket for Bukoto South Constituency in Lwengo District, while Nakato is getting ready to join the National Unity Platform (NUP) camp and battle it out for the Bukomansimbi parliamentary seat.
For sure, their strategy has raised eyebrows already with some political critics calling, it a brilliant insurance policy. Others suspect they’re playing a clever game of “love, loyalty, and secret intel.”
Will their relationship help them navigate both political parties, or are they just two clever lovebirds spreading their eggs across different baskets?
Nakato, if she gets the NUP ticket, will take on the incumbent Veronica Nanyondo, who is currently under scrutiny for refusing to support Mpuuga’s censure motion.
Meanwhile, Muteesaasira will face Dr. Twaha Kagabo for the Bukoto South seat, a man recently entangled in drama with his party leadership at Kavule, now hinting at a potential switch to NRM.
One thing’s for sure, this couple’s political strategy is as dynamic as their love story, and whether they end up on opposing sides or working hand-in-hand, only time will tell.
Let’s wait and see how it goes, watch this space.
END.
