Mubiru Ngoobi, a bodaboda rider and resident of Lumuli in Seeta Town Mukono municipality is rotting away at his home following an incident where he was shot twice in the buttock.
It is allegedly reported that on July 8 Ngoobi had parked his motorcycle at Next lounge car parking space talking to his colleagues.
Patrick Okiru, a police officer came out of the bar located in the same parking space and fired bullets against them, they all got dispersed but in the process Ngoobi was shot twice.
Ngoobi up to now is still uncertain about the exact reasons which forced Okiru to shoot him. Currently, his right lower part of the body is swelling besides crying of pain especially when he is urinating.
He reveals that after the shooting, he received first aid at Mukono general hospital and later a surgery at Mulago national hospital where the doctors successfully removed the bullets which had got wedged in the body.
The Lumuli LCI Chairperson, Joseph Egesa says learned about the incident but up to now failed to find out reasons behind the shooting.
He however notes that the accused officer is known for drinking and turning violent and at times end up fighting innocent people.
Currently Ngoobi is unable to work but stuck at home with his family which includes the unemployed wife and three children together with the old mother who completely survives on his care.
Aisha Nalubega, the wife of Ngoobi says the situation is too hard for them to further take his husband to any hospital to manage wounds.
She notes that they also tried following the matter at Seeta police station but instead the investigating officer told them to settle the matter as individuals.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango says Okiru was having an evening within the area and went to help himself where he was confronted by thugs and shot in the air and unfortunately a stray bullet got Ngoobi.
“He did not intend to shoot him because is the same bodaboda man whom he uses whenever he wants to send a bodaboda person. The pistol was submitted to the government analytical laboratory for analysis as investigations continue.” Onyango says.
