Police in the Ssezibwa region have launched investigations into the reported abduction of a prominent school director who was allegedly kidnapped by armed men from her home in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District.
The victim, Moret Komugisha, is the director of St. Abel Primary School and is also associated with Bosmo School, both located in Njeru.
According to preliminary reports, unknown assailants raided Komugisha’s residence in Bujowali Cell during the night and forcefully took her away in the presence of family members. During the incident, the attackers reportedly restrained her husband, Boses Taremwa, before escaping with her to an unknown destination.
Family members have remained largely silent following the incident, saying they are emotionally overwhelmed. However, they issued a brief appeal requesting anyone with information that could assist investigations to report to either Njeru Central Police Station or Jinja Central Police Station.
Residents in the area say the incident has left the community in shock, describing Komugisha as a well-known figure in the education sector whose work has impacted many families in Buikwe District and neighbouring Jinja City.
One resident, who preferred anonymity due to security concerns, said the abduction has raised fear among locals because the neighbourhood has for years been considered relatively secure.
“She is widely respected in this area, and many people are disturbed by what happened,” the resident said.
The resident further noted that the community has enjoyed years of relative peace, with only isolated incidents of petty crime reported in recent years despite the presence of private security guards and sniffer dogs in several homes.
She recalled that the last major violent incident in the area happened in 2017 when a German national, Remus Manfred, was shot dead by unknown attackers. Following that killing, the then Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, visited the area and later addressed residents during a community policing meeting at Njeru Central Police Station.
Residents were subsequently encouraged to strengthen neighbourhood vigilance through WhatsApp groups used to share suspicious activity directly with police officers.
Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson Hellen Butoto confirmed the ongoing search for Komugisha, saying detectives have been deployed and investigations intensified.
Butoto said police are working closely with other security agencies to trace the abductors and ensure the victim is safely rescued.
She also reassured residents of the force’s commitment to maintaining security across the region as investigations continue.
