A man accused of involvement in a multi-billion-shilling fake gold scam has been re-arraigned before the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court on fresh charges of forgery and uttering false documents.

Muhammad Ali was on Thursday presented before the court by officers from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Prosecution alleges that Ali forged and used false documents to secure bail while he was facing trial in the principal case involving an alleged fake gold fraud worth USD 3.5 million, approximately UGX 13 billion.

The alleged gold scam is said to have targeted investors from Dubai who were reportedly duped into believing they were purchasing genuine gold.

After taking plea on the fresh charges, the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded Ali to prison until July 31, 2026, when he is expected to reappear for further proceedings.

Meanwhile, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit said investigations into the fake gold syndicate have yielded new leads pointing to additional suspects believed to have participated in the fraud.

According to the anti-corruption agency, the identified suspects are currently on the run, and security agencies have launched efforts to track them down.

The Unit said all suspects linked to the alleged fraud will be arraigned before court once they are arrested.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the other suspects or the specific roles they allegedly played in the purported gold scam, citing ongoing investigations.
