A former LC III Chairperson of Nakisunga Sub-County in Mukono District has been charged with corruption and criminal conspiracy over allegations that he and two accomplices defrauded a job applicant of Shs38 million by promising to secure him a government medical officer position.
Sekikubo Mubarak was on Monday arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court by officials from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
He was remanded until November 4, 2026, as investigations and prosecution of the case continue.
Prosecution alleges that between January and June 2025, in Mukono Town, Sekikubo conspired with Mugerwa Ronald Saaku, a Probation and Welfare Officer attached to Lugazi Municipality, and Dr Wataba Saadi, who are both still at large, to defraud Dr Mukisa George William, a job applicant, of Shs38 million.
According to the allegations, the accused and his alleged accomplices falsely represented to Dr Mukisa that they had the ability to secure him a government appointment as a Medical Officer in Mukono District.
Investigations further indicate that the suspects allegedly told the applicant that the money would be used to facilitate members of the Mukono District Service Commission to improperly influence the recruitment process in his favour.
The alleged scheme was intended to secure Dr Mukisa the medical officer position in exchange for an undue advantage, according to the prosecution.
The case raises concerns about alleged attempts to manipulate public service recruitment processes through bribery and the solicitation of money from job seekers seeking government employment.
Mugerwa and Dr Wataba have not yet been apprehended, according to the information released by the anti-corruption authorities.
Sekikubo’s remand is intended to allow the case to proceed through the court process. The allegations against him remain to be proved in court.
