Nalongo Maggie Kaweesi sits beside 'Kabaka' Nakibinge as he addresses residents during a meeting at a contested piece of land.

The death of Nalongo Maggie Kiweesi, the widow of late Ugandan musician Emmanuel Mayanja, popularly known as AK47, has revived public interest in a woman whose life extended far beyond her connection to the celebrated singer.

While many Ugandans knew her as the mother of AK47’s twins and a socialite, few were aware that in the months before her death, she had become embroiled in a controversial land dispute in Mukono District alongside her boyfriend, a man who claimed to be acting under spiritual instructions.

Land Dispute Turns Dramatic as ‘Witchdoctor’ Is Unmasked as Security Operative

February 21, 2026

Nalongo Maggie died at Mengo Hospital on July 20, 2026, after spending three days receiving treatment for complications involving her internal organs.

In February 2026, Nalongo Maggie and her boyfriend, who identified himself as Kabaka Nakibinge, were spotted in Katente B Village, Nakisunga Sub-county, Mukono District, where residents accused the pair of participating in what they described as an aggressive land-grabbing scheme.

The controversy centred on land occupied by more than 20 tenant families, who claimed they had lived there for decades.

Residents alleged that Kabaka Nakibinge, whose real identity remained unclear, claimed to be a security operative attached to the Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS), formerly the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).

They accused him of using intimidation and spiritual claims to justify attempts to evict occupants.

According to residents, Nakibinge frequently told locals that his ancestors had instructed him through dreams to establish 120 palaces and shrines across different locations, with Katente B being one of the chosen sites.

He reportedly insisted that the spiritual mission justified taking over the land despite it being occupied by long-term residents.

The allegations sparked fear within the community.

Residents claimed food gardens were destroyed, mature trees were cut down and sold, and several homes were marked for demolition.

Ronald Kabugo, 63, one of the affected residents, said the disputed land had been inherited from his father and had supported his family for many years.

He maintained that he had never sold the land and knew of no legitimate transaction transferring ownership.

Village leaders also alleged that Nakibinge mobilised groups of youths who patrolled the area at night, intimidating residents and forcing some families to flee.

However, Nakibinge denied any wrongdoing.

He maintained that he legally purchased the land from a man identified as Captain Roy and insisted that he was the rightful owner. He argued that the occupants had refused to vacate despite what he described as a lawful acquisition.

Residents further claimed that he frequently boasted of connections to powerful individuals, referring to President Yoweri Museveni as “No.1” and presenting himself as an influential adviser on Buganda land matters.

He also allegedly claimed interests in several high-profile properties across the country, including land occupied by Parliament, the Lubowa International Specialized Hospital project, Usafi Market and property associated with Lubiri Mengo. Those claims were never independently verified.

ENDS.
