Five National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters—Tasi Calvin (Bobi Giant), Serunkuuma Edwin (Eddie King Kabenja), Lukenge Sharif, Yasin Nyanzi, and Tonny Kaweesi—have been remanded to Luzira Prison over alleged unlawful drilling, following videos of a military-style parade.
The group, in police custody for days, appeared in court under tight security, with restricted access to the courtroom.
They join Edward Sebuufu (Eddie Mutwe) and Achileo Kivumbi, previously charged with the same offence.
Prosecution says the seven attended a gathering at NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule, Wandegeya, on February 12, 2025, without permission and trained participants in military exercises, violating Sections 45(1)(b) and 363 of the Penal Code Act.
All accused pleaded not guilty and applied for bail. Some proposed sureties were blocked from court and later arrested.
Magistrate Damalie Agumaasiimwe adjourned the case to September 29, 2025, directing the DPP to file a response. The five remain in Luzira Prison.
