Rakai, Uganda
Authorities in the Rakai district are currently investigating a harrowing incident involving the violent deaths of two relatives, suspected to be an act of fatal retribution.
These tragic events unfolded in Kateretere village, in Kansankala sub-county, over the span of two and a half weeks.
The most recent incident involved Ambrose Kadogo, a 43-year-old resident, who was viciously attacked and ruthlessly slain on Tuesday by unidentified assailants.
This horrifying event occurred barely two weeks after Kadogo’s release from Rakai Police station, where he had been detained on suspicion of strangling his uncle, Amidu Mugisha, and disposing of his body in a pond.
Following his release, Kadogo returned to his residence, while his three co-accused opted to temporarily relocate until the situation stabilised.
Immediately after being released from police custody, Kadogo displayed an arrogant conduct and openly taunted the grieving members of Mugisha’s family.
Witnesses have reported that Kadogo openly admitted to paying a substantial sum of UGX4 million for their release and confessed to his involvement in Mugisha’s demise.
He allegedly boasted about being immune to consequences due to his strong connections with the police and influential politicians.
Kadogo purportedly insinuated that money could shield him from any repercussions.
This likely fueled the anger within Mugisha’s family, leading them to seek revenge for their beloved relative’s death.
According to Edison Twinomujuni, the chairperson of the Kateretere Local Council (LCI), these troubles are rooted in a long-standing family feud characterised by accusations of witchcraft and property damage among various family members.
John Muburizi Amumpe, an elderly resident, revealed that tensions within the family had been boiling for years. He adds that by the time they intervened to save Kadogo, it was already too late.
However, the Rakai police station is actively questioning various family members in connection with these two tragic incidents.
