A mobile money and banking agent in Kasambya Town Council, Mubende District, is recovering from injuries after surviving a violent armed robbery in which assailants escaped with approximately Sh9 million and other valuables.

The victim, identified as Taremwa Vincent, 44, a resident of Kasambya B Ward, was attacked on the night of May 20, 2026, while returning home from work.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:40pm at a junction leading to BRAC Bank in Kasambya Town. Two unidentified men riding on a motorcycle ambushed the victim and demanded that he surrender his bag, which reportedly contained money and other business items.

When Taremwa resisted, the attackers reportedly assaulted him with a knife, injuring his left palm. Despite his resistance, the suspects fired a gunshot into the air to scare him before forcibly grabbing the bag and fleeing the scene.

Inside the stolen bag were Centenary Bank and DTB agent banking machines, two mobile phones with agent lines, and cash amounting to Sh9 million, according to preliminary police findings.

The victim managed to report the matter at Kasambya Police Station before seeking medical attention at a nearby clinic.

Police officers visited and examined the scene of crime, where a spent cartridge was recovered, indicating that the attackers were armed with an AK-47 rifle. Statements from witnesses have since been recorded as investigations continue.

Lameca Kigozi, the SSP and PRO for Wamala Region, confirmed the incident and said a manhunt for the suspects is ongoing.

He also urged mobile money and banking agents to remain vigilant, noting that they are often targeted due to the large sums of money they handle both at their workplaces and during movement.

“Agents should always prioritize their personal security and take precautions when handling and transporting money,” Kigozi advised.

Police say efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
