The High Court Criminal Division has sentenced notorious Wakiso-based land grabber Charles Kyagaba to eight years in prison after finding him guilty on two counts of obtaining money by false pretences.

According to court proceedings, each count attracted a four-year sentence, which the court ordered to run consecutively, bringing the total sentence to eight years.

Kyagaba had earlier been convicted by the Entebbe High Court Circuit on multiple offences, including malicious damage to property, fraudulent procurement of land titles, criminal trespass, assault, and forcible entry.

Court heard that Kyagaba, alongside several accomplices who are still on the run, spent years terrorising residents in Wakiso District, particularly in Entebbe, by fraudulently claiming ownership of people’s land and selling the properties to unsuspecting buyers.

The convict was first arrested in 2022 following widespread public outcry and numerous complaints from affected residents in Entebbe. Investigations and prosecution were jointly conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Authorities described the conviction and sentencing as a major breakthrough in the fight against land grabbing and fraudulent land transactions in Wakiso District.

Security agencies have since vowed to continue pursuing Kyagaba’s accomplices who remain at large.
