Handcuffed Suspect Escapes Under Police Watch

Suspect

Until now, the Police in Mukono are scratching their heads after a man managed to escape mysteriously from custody—handcuffs.

The suspect, 38-year-old Isa Olenge, also known as Isa Gandi, has vanished into thin air after pulling off what can only be described as a budget-version prison break.

Police Officer Arrested After Shooting and Killing Two-Year-Old in Bar

June 27, 2026

“He said he was too weak to walk, but somehow, he sprinted away with our handcuffs,” said Kampala Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango.

It all started on February 18, 2025 when Mukono police, in a well-planned operation, arrested three notorious criminals namelyPaul Kahata, Alex Katongole and the now-infamous Olenge.

According to police, Olenge initially put up a fight, trying to disarm the officers before he was “disabled” (a very polite way of saying he lost the scuffle) and taken into custody.

Due to his injuries, he was admitted to Mulago Referral Hospital, where doctors patched him up. But Olenge, it seems, was determined to milk his situation.

“After he was discharged, he claimed his health was still bad,” Onyango explained.

He adds that they took him to a private hospital near Mukono Police, and that’s where the real drama began.

While under treatment at CPR Medical Centre—and still in handcuffs—Olenge somehow recovered miraculously and made a run for it.

“He just got carried away and took off,” Onyango admitted.

Yes, that’s right. A man too ill to sit up a few hours earlier managed to outrun the police while accessorizing with official handcuffs.

Public Safety Alert

“If you see a man limping around with handcuffs, don’t assume it’s a fashion statement. Please report to the nearest police station,” says Onyango.

Olenge faces a shopping list of charges, including malicious damage, assault, and theft.

But he insists he’s innocent, claiming he’s merely a victim of a gang war involving a certain UPDF officer.

Meanwhile, his wife, Harriet Nsangi, is worried about her husband’s safety and the threats their family has been receiving.

For now, the Mukono police force remains baffled. Their missing suspect is injured, shackled, and on the run.

Where is he? No one knows. But if you see a man furiously trying to unlock a pair of police handcuffs with a rusty nail, you might want to make that call.
