Local musician Douglas Mayanja, widely known as Weasel, is currently admitted to Nsambya Hospital with serious leg injuries following an alleged incident involving his partner, Sandra Tete.
According to eyewitness accounts provided to Kabalagala police, the incident occurred at Chans Bar in Munyonyo, Makindye Division, Kampala.
Witnesses claim that Tete intentionally struck Weasel with a vehicle three times, resulting in multiple fractures in one of his legs.
Police have since apprehended Sandra Tete, who is now held at Kabalagala Police Station. In her statement to investigators, she admitted to the incident but attributed her actions to a long-standing domestic dispute.
She said tensions had escalated earlier in the day after Weasel allegedly forced her and their children out of their home.
Tete told police that she sought intervention from Weasel’s family, only to be told to return to the home and resolve their differences. Upon returning, she says the verbal and physical abuse from Weasel resumed.
Later, when he left for Chans Bar, she followed him there, where another altercation broke out before she allegedly ran him over.
“I thought going to his parents would bring some calm, but they simply told me to go back home. Things only worsened. After he left for the bar, I followed him, and things escalated,” Tete reportedly told detectives.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest and added that Weasel was rushed to Nsambya Hospital for treatment.
“Our preliminary investigations and eyewitness reports suggest that the suspect hit Weasel with a vehicle multiple times. He survived but sustained several fractures in his leg. His condition is stable,” Onyango said.
The tumultuous relationship between Weasel and Tete has been marked by repeated breakups and reconciliations. Sources familiar with the couple say this is not the first time their disagreements have spilled into the public or required police intervention.
Weasel, who is a younger brother to renowned artist Dr Jose Chameleone, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident.
