As the political landscape continues to shift, the country is witnessing many surprises.
Now, Nambooze’s long-time personal bodyguard, Yeko Ssasira, has announced his entry into active politics.
For over a decade, Ssasira has been a familiar figure behind Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze, ensuring her security.
However, on Thursday, during a Mukono Central Division Council meeting, he formally declared his intention to contest for a seat as a district council representative for the division.
In a dramatic declaration, Ssasira, who also identifies as a pastor, issued a stern warning to potential rivals, claiming divine backing for his political ambitions.
“The Lord has chosen me to represent His people in the district. Whoever fights me shall be fighting against God, and whoever blesses my journey shall receive the same blessing,” he stated.
The position is currently held by Julius Ssemakula, a fellow member of Nambooze’s political camp.
Meanwhile, Nambooze’s son, Ronald Kisawuzi, has also expressed interest in the Mukono Central Division Chairperson seat.
Both Ssasira and Kisawuzi are seeking the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket ahead of the general elections.
Their entry into the race sets the stage for an intense competition within NUP ranks as the party prepares for upcoming electoral contests.
