Residents of Mukono North County have endorsed former Minister for Water Resources, Ronald Kibuule, as the sole National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate for the parliamentary seat.
This development follows the withdrawal of his immediate rival, Hajjat Zam Wadindi Namugawe, who had initially expressed interest in the position.
During an NRM restructuring meeting at Nama Sub County Headquarters, Namugawe announced her decision to step down, citing the openness of voters in supporting Kibuule.

“For the past few days, I’ve visited voters, and they’ve been clear about their support for Hon. Kibuule. Therefore, I’ve chosen to step down and support him,” she said.
She also urged Kibuule’s rivals to refrain from pressuring her to remain in the race.
Kibuule commended Namugawe’s decision, describing it as an act of love and support for the party.

“This shows our commitment to NRM reclaiming its territories. With this level sealed, I assure my supporters that we’re ready to win the next general election, and I’ll soon start visiting parish by parish,” Kibuule stated.
The Resident District Commissioner, Fatumah Ndisaba Nabitaka, praised the people of Mukono North for streamlining the party’s process in selecting the best candidate for the parliamentary seat.

“I’m sure you’ve realized the mistake made in the previous general election. I’m happy that you’re making a proper choice this time,” she said.
Meanwhile, the District Party Chairperson, Hajji Twahir Ssebaggala, appealed to aspirants in other Mukono constituencies to consider reconciling and supporting a single flag bearer ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The constituencies include Nakifuma, Mukono South, Mukono Municipality, and District Woman Member of Parliament.
In the previous elections, Mukono lost all these positions to the opposition, with divisions and internal fights contributing to the loss.
