The state minister for Lands, Dr Sam Mayanja has broken-down after years of confronting the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and Buganda Kingdom officials over land management.
Mayanja noted addressing residents at Nkokonjeru town council in Buikwe district that he is ready to visit Mengo and apologize to the Kabaka.
He also noted that will use the same space to inform the Kabaka about the irregularities orchestrated by some of his officials.
Mayanja’s statement comes a few weeks after Kabaka passed a notice of the intention to sue against him.
The Kabaka instructed his legal team to take legal action against Mayanja, over his alleged disregard of court rulings regarding the disputed Kaazi land, officially owned by the Kingdom.
The legal team was also instructed to challenge Mayanja’s declarations, utterances, and actions, culminating in the meeting of March 4, 2025, at Kaazi.
However, at Buikwe, Minister Mayanja sounded apologetic and calculative while addressing land matters regarding the Kingdom.
On his mission at Buikwe, Mayanja instructed the arrest of David Kiwanuka, a resident at Ssi-Bukunja for grabbing and evicting tenants from their plots of land. Mayanaja says the land claimed by Kiwanuka is public land.
The District Woman Member of Parliament who also doubles as the state minister in the Office of the Vice President, Diana Mutasingwa reported the poor habits in the office of Resident District Commissioner which involves sidelining with rich people to evict poor residents.
She also cautioned them against compelling poor residents to surrender part of their land to landlords in the guise of securing land titles.
“So many residents have been compelled to surrender part of their land and again landlords deny them titles.” Mutasingwa noted.
The RDC, Major David Matovu says since taking over the office, various tasks are now conducted in the proper way and acceptable direction.
Last year, the Office of the RDC came into limelight after president’s representative Hawa Ndege openly sided with land grabbers from Wakiso to seize land from bibanja holders.
