The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has arrested a senior official from Apac District Local Government over allegations of presenting forged documents to secure employment.
The suspect, Mega Atim, who serves as the Senior Agricultural Engineer in Apac District, was arrested on allegations of uttering a false document.
She recorded a statement at the IG’s regional office in Lira and is expected to appear before court in Apac District on May 26, 2026.
Investigations indicate that Atim applied for the position of Senior Agricultural Engineer in May 2024 and was subsequently appointed by the district local government.
According to the IGG, part of the documents she submitted included an appointment letter dated February 3, 2020, purportedly issued by Itek-Okille Farmers’ Cooperative Society to prove her previous work experience as an Agricultural Engineer.
However, investigators say the leadership of the cooperative later disowned the document, stating that Atim had never worked for the organization. The letter was consequently declared a forgery.
The case is being handled under Section 328 of the Penal Code Act Cap 128, which criminalizes the uttering of false documents.
The law states that any person who knowingly and fraudulently presents a false document commits an offence and is liable to the same punishment as a person convicted of forgery.
Authorities say inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
