George Fred Kagimu is the current Mukono Municipal Mayor and the newly elected Mukono District Democratic Party Chairperson, a known tycoon who has invested and gained riches from fuel station business, restaurants, sports and recreation services.
He is completing his first term as the political head in Mukono municipality where he succeeded Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga, now the Mukono south member of parliament.
It would be early enough to call Kagimu a DP unfaltering member recalling how he joined the party and how he has become the party chairperson. In 2015 the known National Resistance Movement-NRM mobiliser was convinced by Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze to join DP a decision he took to win the elections.
It was a hard decision for him to consider, even when he assumed power, NRM has remained a ground where he has been finding peace throughout his leadership despite of denying relationship.
On several occasions Kagimu has termed the relationship as the spirit of delivering services to the public much as our investigations show a number of roads within the municipality are under sorry state, full of potholes and few whose earthworks have been done generate dust to the nearby residents.
A town without a physical plan authorizing uncoordinated housing developments, municipal land for various units losing land titles, garbage turning into road pavements and corridor carpets. The municipal is also at the verge of losing its headquarters to the diocese after failing to renew its lease for now five years.
Mukono has achieved an elevation of its health center IV to a hospital status during Kagimu’s leadership giving hope to residents that he can serve a better monitoring role and lobbying once he stands for another term on the same position.
It has been an empty chair for Kagimu to seat but a tycoon with a political sight impairment has instead resorted to dislodge Nambooze from the parliamentary position.
The ground is set for the two, much as the position is also eyed by new energies from other parties. Kagimu is the district party chairperson instituted by Norbert Mao faction with belief that whoever holds the wins Mukono municipality.
