Henry Ssali, a renowned leader in higher education and community development, has been named the Chief Strategy Officer at Diaspora, a renowned Open Space.  

Ssali brings a wealth of experience in governance, advocacy, and policy-making and a passion for driving strategic growth in diverse sectors.

Henry Ssali is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Toronto.

His research on student governments’ influence on university policies during the COVID-19 pandemic has garnered attention for its depth and relevance to understanding leadership during crises.

His experience in educational policy, governance, and international relations aligns seamlessly with Diaspora Open Space’s strategic vision.

“Henry’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Diaspora Open Space. His expertise in educational leadership and remarkable contributions to community-building and student advocacy will be invaluable as we expand our impact and foster dialogue across the global Diaspora community,” said the Diaspora Open Space President, Remmy Bahati.

As Founder and Executive Director of the University of Toronto African Alumni Association (UTAAA), Henry has proven his ability to lead initiatives that empower individuals and create lasting change.

His leadership in launching initiatives such as The GOWN: African Scholars Awards and the Nina Bascia Educational Policy Symposium demonstrates his deep commitment to enhancing Africans’ educational and professional outcomes worldwide.

“Joining Diaspora Open Space is an incredible opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and forward-thinking organization, bridging gaps and creating impactful connections across cultures. I am excited to work with the team and our partners to advance strategic initiatives that promote equity, inclusion, and empowerment for the global Diaspora community,” said Henry Ssali.

Henry’s notable academic contributions, including his influential thesis on food insecurity among international students in Canadian universities, further highlight his dedication to addressing systemic challenges within higher education.

His research continues to drive conversations on institutional policy and the intersection of equity and student success.

In his new role as Chief Strategic Officer, Henry will leverage his extensive experience in leadership, research, and community development to shape the future of Diaspora Open Space and its strategic initiatives.

His appointment underscores the organization’s commitment to expanding its reach and impact in promoting the voices and stories of the global Diaspora.
