The Buganda Road and City Hall Chief Magistrates Courts have remanded an additional 40 youths to Luzira prison for alleged involvement in anti-corruption protests.
The forty remanded individuals on Wednesday evening bring the number to 94.
On Tuesday, 54 individuals were remanded by the Nakawa and Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court.
The suspects were arrested during the walk to Parliament protests on Tuesday.
The protestors who were split on different files are charged with various offenses amidst heavy security deployment from Uganda police.
Security armed with both guns and batons keep inside and out of the court premises.
They have faced counts including common nuisance and being idle and disorderly.
Prosecution states that the suspects at Parliamentary Avenue and Oasis Mall Nakumatt made a procession in the middle of the road while carrying placards demanding the resignation of the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, an act not authorized by law and therefore annoying the public.
It’s further alleged that the suspects publicly conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
Nonetheless, lawyers playing a pro-bono role of following up the arrested individuals on top of defending them claim the majority of youths went missing but their whereabouts are becoming untraceable.
