Entebbe Customs Intercepts 325 High-End Smuggled Phones

Entebbe Airport Customs team has intercepted at least 325 mobile phones from different countries.

This was possible in a joint operation dubbed ‘Operation Holy Grail’ to combat the illicit importation of high-end smartphones to Uganda,

This strategic operation started during ‘Women’s Month’, targeting travellers attempting to smuggle devices into the country.

They encountered a display of cunning and ingenuity by smugglers, showcasing tactics that could rival those seen in an Oscar-worthy heist film.

One individual caught the attention of customs officials with a peculiar fashion accessory, a cosset.

Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that this seemingly innocuous item was ingeniously concealing 36 pieces of the latest Apple and Samsung smartphones.

This creative attempt to evade detection demonstrated the lengths smugglers would go to ply their trade.

Another smuggler caught the eye of officials due to his unusually developed calf muscles, reminiscent of a seasoned bodybuilder.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that these impressive muscles served as the perfect camouflage for concealing 39 pieces of assorted mobile phones.

This instance highlighted the innovative methods employed by smugglers to evade detection.

The creativity of the smugglers knew no bounds, as phones were found concealed within a variety of everyday items including PlayStation consoles, automotive spare parts, garments, and computer accessories.

The meticulousness with which these concealments were executed underscored the sophistication of the smuggling operation.

At the end of the operation, a total of 325 assorted smartphones, with an estimated value of USD 70,000, had been intercepted by Entebbe Customs.

However, the work was far from over as officials initiated offence management procedures to address the illegal activities uncovered during the operation.

According to customs, travellers must remain vigilant and cautious, particularly when approached by individuals offering monetary incentives to assist in bypassing customs procedures.

Often, when a smuggler is apprehended, the mastermind behind the operation remains elusive, leaving the courier to face the consequences alone.

As justice begins to unfold, the question lingers as to who ultimately bears responsibility for these illicit activities.

With each interception, Entebbe Customs reaffirms its commitment to upholding the law and safeguarding the integrity of border security.

Through continued vigilance and cooperation with international partners, authorities say efforts to combat smuggling operations will persist, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
