One Ronald Bwemage ordered a meal from a local food restaurant along Buganda Road owned by Mariam Namugerwa, located.

The meal, which consisted of rice, matooke (plantains), and meat, was served by the waitress -Josephine Nakawojja.

However, Bwemage was horrified to find a piece of meat that resembled the genitalia of a young child.

Despite raising the alarm with the vendor and server, his concerns were dismissed, leading him to report the incident to the authorities.

However, upon receiving the report, the Kampala Central Police Station launched an immediate investigation.

Inquiries into the matter were initiated, and the suspected food item was recovered and sent for examination by a pathologist.

Both Namugerwa and Nakawojja were arrested and questioned by law enforcement officials.

Francis Kateega, the Deputy Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), led a team of Scene of Crime Officers (SOCOs) to visit the crime scene.

Additionally, searches were conducted at the residences of the suspects, though no significant evidence was found.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing, with authorities awaiting the results from the pathologist and other experts to determine the nature of the meat in question.

According to the investigators, appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.

The incident sent shockwaves through the community, sparking concerns about food safety and hygiene standards.

Residents are calling for stricter regulations and inspections within the food industry to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Impact on the Food Business, Tourism

The incident, if not handled professionally, could potentially have broad implications for the restaurant business and tourism industry.

According to critics, concerns about the incident could deter both locals and tourists from dining out, which in turn impacts the revenue and viability of restaurants, cafes, and street vendors alike.

In addition, the negative publicity surrounding the incident could tarnish Kampala’s reputation as a culinary destination, affecting the city’s tourism sector.

Visitors may hesitate to explore the vibrant street food scene or sample local delicacies out of fear of similar occurrences.

However, citizens say it’s important to maintain stringent food safety protocols and regulations to uphold public health standards and safeguard the reputation of Kampala as a tourist-friendly destination.
