Popular Ugandan artist Dax Vibez, real name Ivan Bugembe Sentamu, was detained over the weekend following an alleged assault incident in Jinja City during the Ekitudha concert.
Ekitudha, a major annual concert organized by Baba Media Group, held its 2025 edition on July 6 at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe, Jinja City. The event drew top musicians from across Uganda, as well as local artists and comedians from the Busoga sub-region.
Following their performances, artists Mikie Wine and Dax Vibez departed for Kampala but made a stop at Shell Ambercourt in Jinja, where an altercation reportedly broke out involving Mikie Wine’s team and a local resident, Ibra Hussein.
Both parties later proceeded to Jinja Central Police Station (CPS) in an attempt to resolve the matter. According to James Mubi, spokesperson for the Kiira Region Police, officers at CPS tried to mediate between the two sides.
Ibra Hussein went on to file an assault complaint against Mikie Wine, while Mikie Wine lodged a counter-complaint of malicious damage against Hussein. Both were later released on police bond.
However, while still at the station, Dax Vibez allegedly assaulted Hussein, prompting a fresh case of assault to be opened against him. He was subsequently detained.
Mubi confirmed that investigations are ongoing under the guidance of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from both Jinja CPS and Shell Ambercourt to gather possible evidence.
He also appealed to artists and members of the public to treat one another with respect and dignity in order to foster peaceful coexistence.
