The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) is searching for Police Corporal Geoffrey Otim following the unexplained death of his wife, Zaina Nansubuga.
Trouble began last Thursday when Nansubuga urgently called her younger sister, asking to be taken to the hospital after claiming she had been assaulted by Otim.
Her sister rushed her to Joy Medical Centre in Ndeeba, Rubaga Division, Kampala.
Unfortunately, Nansubuga’s health worsened quickly, and she died while the medical team tried to transfer her to a better facility.
“When she died, the sister called Katwe police. We went there and found the body at Joy Medical Centre. However, the deceased did not have any physical signs of torture or assault. We took the body to Mulago Hospital, and we are now waiting for the postmortem,” a detective shared.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, noted that Otim has not shown up at Katwe police station to provide a statement.
Owoyesigyire expressed concern, saying, “The police officer hasn’t reported himself to Katwe police, which is conducting the investigation, yet the allegations are surrounding him.
The body did not have any physical injuries on it. We are waiting for the postmortem to see whether it can be investigated as murder. He [Otim] should report himself for investigation.
“Investigators suspect that Otim might have punched Nansubuga, leading to internal bleeding that could have caused her death.
The CID has not yet determined what charges will be filed against Otim, pending the results of the postmortem report.
This case comes shortly after another police officer, Constable Alex Adei, shot and killed his wife, Barbra Apia Kongai, at Naguru police barracks.Adei first shot Constable Seezi Tusiime, whom he suspected of having an affair with his wife.
Both officers were part of the Counter-Terrorism (CT) Directorate, which deals with serious crimes and the protection of important government figures.
Adei, who fled the scene with the weapon, was later apprehended by the Directorate of Crime Intelligence and the CID.
He confessed that he did not accidentally kill Tusiime, stating that Tusiime was his first target before he turned the gun on his wife.
