Two Remanded Over Alleged UGX80 Million Land Fraud Scheme in Entebbe

The accused persons

Two individuals accused of orchestrating a land fraud scheme that allegedly swindled a buyer of Shs80 million have been remanded by the Entebbe Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The suspects, Junior Mugisha Bukanura and Naume Akora, appeared before court on Wednesday facing multiple charges, including obtaining money by false pretences, forgery, uttering false documents, and personation.

Their arrest and prosecution follow joint investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Investigators allege that on October 14, 2025, the accused, working with others still at large, posed as legitimate landowners and convinced a buyer to purchase a parcel of land they did not own.

Authorities say the suspects claimed ownership of land comprised in Busiro Block 436, Plot 374 in Nalugala, Wakiso District, presenting themselves as the registered proprietors in order to facilitate the transaction.

To strengthen their deception, it is alleged that they produced forged National Identity Cards bearing the names and National Identification Numbers of the actual landowners, identified as Ahimbisibwe Allan and Nassamula Harriet. While the details matched the genuine owners, the photographs on the documents reportedly belonged to the suspects.

Prosecutors further contend that the accused executed a fraudulent sale agreement, which was used to convince the victim that the deal was legitimate, leading to the loss of Shs80 million.

The court heard that the suspects will remain on remand until July 15, 2026, as investigations continue and authorities pursue other individuals linked to the scheme.

The case adds to a growing number of land fraud complaints in Wakiso District, where authorities have repeatedly cautioned the public to thoroughly verify ownership documents before engaging in property transactions.
