Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde has assured the people of Tooro Kingdom that outstanding administrative issues arising from the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Rukiidi IV will be resolved by Saturday.
Tumukunde made the assurance on Monday while addressing mourners at the Karuzika Royal Palace, where preparations for the burial of the late king are underway.
Although the minister did not disclose the specific matters under consideration, his remarks come amid growing uncertainty and public debate over the succession of the Tooro throne.
Following the king’s death, questions have emerged over who will eventually succeed him. President Yoweri Museveni, citing the Queen Mother, Best Kemigisa, and Tooro Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomire, said the late king left behind a son.
However, Charles Kamurasi, head of the Babiito clan, has challenged the claim, adding to uncertainty and sparking debate among kingdom officials and members of the public.
Tumukunde called for calm, urging Tooro subjects and the wider public to avoid speculation at a time when the kingdom is mourning.
He said a series of meetings would begin on Tuesday to address the outstanding concerns and ensure that the necessary arrangements are completed before the king’s burial.
The minister also cautioned social media users and bloggers against spreading unverified information about the succession and other sensitive matters surrounding the royal family.
Tumukunde appeared deliberate in his choice of words, saying he had been directed by President Museveni to take charge of resolving the issues and keep him informed about developments.
He appealed to journalists and other stakeholders to allow the process to proceed without unnecessary speculation.
Before addressing mourners and the media, Tumukunde held a closed-door meeting with some members of the royal family for nearly two hours.
He commended the people of Tooro for maintaining support for the kingdom during the difficult period and called for continued unity as preparations for the burial continue.
