In a statement issued on Saturday through his X account, PLU Secretary General Fadil Twaha announced that the officials had been recognised by the organisation’s chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for their contribution to the growth of PLU and their commitment to its principles.
According to the announcement, Oboth-Oboth was assigned PO 059, Tayebwa received PO 060, while Kiwanuka was designated PO 061.
“Fellow Patriots and members of the Patriotic League of Uganda, our Chairman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has awarded the following patriots with numbers as recognition for their efforts towards the growth of PLU and for upholding the organisation’s principles,” Twaha stated.

The numbering structure was officially unveiled on March 20, 2026, with Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba designated as Patriotic Officer 001. Other founding members listed included Andrew Mwenda (PO 002), Michael Nuwagira (PO 003), Edwin Karugire (PO 004), Daudi Kabanda (PO 005), Balaam Barugahara (PO 006), Michael Mawanda (PO 007), Lillian Aber (PO 008), the late Cedric Babu (PO 009), Frank Gashumba (PO 010), Henry Basaliza (PO 011), and Secretary General Fadil Twaha (PO 012).
PLU Director of Communications Andrew Mwenda has previously explained that the numbering system is intended to recognise members’ historical contribution to the formation of the organisation and to signify seniority within its structures.
The system is modelled on the numbering practice adopted by the National Resistance Army during the 1981–1986 guerrilla war, where fighters were assigned identification numbers that later became enduring symbols of status and recognition within the National Resistance Movement.
