Resident and leaders in Buvuma and Buikwe district are worried about the increasing floating islands on Lake Victoria.
Floating islands dissect from several scattered islands before they join to form a big floating island.
The dissected parts of the island join up especially in the middle of the lake from Bugaya, Muwama and Nkata islands occupying big sections.
John Malebo a resident at Kiyindi landing site notes that for so many times big portions of swamps have been floating on the Lake to the direction of Nalubaale dam which may interrupt power supply and cause power blackout again.
The Buvuma Member of Parliament Robert Migadde says the government should set up a routine monitoring team to stop the small floating islands before they join forming bigger islands.
“Small floating islands end up into bigger ones posing a threat to the Nalubaale power dam since at times it moves at high speed.” Migadde says.
Annet Namwiiri who usually trave on Lake Victoria wonder about the rate at which floating islands emerge on the lake now days.
Meanwhile, the State Minister for Water Ronald Kibuule reveals that they have learnt about this challenge and notified the Ministry of Works and transport team in charge of monitoring which is currently ensuring that it does not get into the direction of the dam as they work out to destroy it.
