Polysack Factory Mourns Death of Long-Serving Employee

Polysack Factory in Kigunga, Mukono District, is mourning the death of one of its long-serving employees, even as police investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.

On September 8, 2025, Rogers Deebat, 60, a machine operator at the factory, was reportedly struck by a forklift while on duty.

Immediate medical attention was provided at the factory’s health facility before he was transferred in a community ambulance towards Kibuli Hospital in Kampala.

However, his condition worsened en route, prompting an emergency stop at Gwatiiro Hospital, where doctors unfortunately confirmed him dead on arrival.

The management of Polysack Factory has since joined family, friends, and colleagues in mourning Deebat, describing him as a committed worker who had diligently served the company.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this very difficult time,” a representative of the factory said.

Police at Mukono Division opened an inquiry into the matter. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy PRO ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, detectives are reviewing CCTV footage, recording witness statements, and tracing the forklift operator believed to have been involved.

“So far, there is no evidence to suggest that the incident was intentional,” he clarified, urging the public to avoid speculation.

While the final cause of death will be determined by a postmortem at Mulago City Mortuary, the incident has renewed calls for heightened workplace safety.

Both police and factory management have emphasized the importance of strengthening safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Polysack Factory, which has operated in Mukono for years, reiterated its commitment to worker welfare and occupational safety, noting that it will continue to cooperate fully with the investigating authorities.

“The wellbeing of our employees has always been at the heart of our operations, and we are committed to ensuring the highest safety standards in the workplace,” management assured.

As investigations proceed, the public has been asked to remain patient and respectful of the grieving family, while awaiting a conclusive report.
