Polysack Factory Mourns Death of Long-Serving Employee

Police have clarified that the death of Rogers Kotak, a 55-year-old employee of Polysack Factory in Kigunga, Mukono District, was purely an accident and did not occur within the factory premises as earlier speculated.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy PRO ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said CCTV footage obtained from the company’s security cameras, to which police have been given full access, shows the incident happened along a community road outside the factory.

According to police, Kotak was struck by a forklift, but investigations have so far established that the operator had no intention to harm him.
“The death of Rogers Kotak was purely an accident. The video footage clearly indicates that it happened along the community road and not inside the factory. The driver of the forklift had no intention of causing his death,” Owoyesigyire stated.

He added that the company has fully cooperated with police investigations, including granting investigators access to its CCTV footage for thorough analysis. The circulating video on social media, he clarified, did not originate from the factory’s security system.

Police have since opened a death inquiry under file number 042/2025 at Mukono Police Division, with the case already referred to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for perusal and guidance.

Management of Polysack Factory, which has been working closely with investigators, has also extended support to Kotak’s family during the mourning period. The company expressed sadness over what it called false and misleading media reports suggesting the deceased was deliberately targeted.

“The family is equally saddened and traumatized by these misleading reports. The factory has been open and transparent throughout the process, and police have all the details. Whoever is trying to blame the factory for this unfortunate accident is doing so for their own motives,” a company representative said.

Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that a conclusive report will be issued once the investigations are complete.
