Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament finally succumbed to public pressure and accepted to sign the Censure motion to convict the four parliamentary commissioners over a controversial service award of Shillings 1.7 billion.
Nambooze decided on Friday after party members on Thursday led by Mukono constituency deputy speaker, Rogers Bazanya, and the party register, Richard Lugoloobi Kasirivu warned to declare her and other legislators from the Greater Mukono immaterial to the party.
They threatened to campaign against MPs who have declined to sign the motion by denying them opportunities to speak at all sorts of functions.
They gave an ultimatum of one day (only Friday) for all legislators to sign. Only two legislators, Abdullah Kiwanuka (Mukono North) and Hanifer Nabukeera (Woman MP) had signed the motion.
The threats created discontentedness in Nambooze who accused party members specifically Bazanya and Lugoloobi of being used by the office of the Resident District Commissioner and partially sponsored by the LCV Chairperson, Rev. Peter Bakaluba to make her look bad in the constituency.
However, in a surprise twist today, Nambooze has attached her signature to the censure motion list. She has however denied pressure from the electorates saying she only consulted them.
She has also noted that her delay in adding the signature was aimed at giving chance to the commissioners to defend themselves.
Nambooze also revealed taking thorough time to review the documents in the parliamentary library about the matter contrary to her WhatsApp message last night where she indicated that many people shall be surprised to find out that her name is already on the list.
Other National Unity Platform legislators from Greater Mukono are still silent about the matter apart from Fred Ssimbwa who has openly confirmed that the motion was initiated out of bad intentions.
The motion to censure the commissioners was initiated by legislators led by Theodore Ssekikubo accusing them of receiving money under the guise of service awards.
However, the motion is challenged by Asuman Basalirwa, the Member of Parliament for Bugiri Municipality who has labeled it an illegal proposal.
He has threatened legal action against MP Theodore Ssekikubo of Lwemiyaga County, the principal petitioner, along with other members who have endorsed the motion to censure the four commissioners.
