In a bid to amplify President Yoweri Museveni’s call, the Eastern National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Capt. George Michael Mukula has urged the entire party members to participate actively in the crucial activities preceding the general elections scheduled for 2026.

This follows the roll-out of the verification exercise and update of the national voter’s register by the Electoral commission, which commenced yesterday 7th January 2025 and is expected to run up to 10th January 2025.

During the exercise, the registered voter’s names will be displayed at every polling station in Uganda and enable voters to confirm their eligibility to participate in the elections.

‘’ I would like to task all NRM cadres to intensify mobilisation and sensitization of Ugandans to participate in this crucial exercise.  I want to urge NRM members that updating the voters’ register is a major undertaking that requires widespread public participation. This is an essential element of the roadmap for credible elections, and we encourage all voters to get involved,” Mukula told reporters on Wednesday morning.

Mukula urged Ugandans to participate peacefully in the electoral process while adhering to legal standards and the Commission’s guidelines.

‘’NRM Government has always guaranteed every Ugandan to exercise their right to vote in an environment characterized by tranquility and respect. As the election period for 2025-2026 approaches, the government is emphasizing the importance of conducting a peaceful, lawful, and inclusive electoral process as we have done over the years’’, added Mukula.

Mukula stressed that voter registration ensures a credible, transparent, and fair election.

“An accurate and clean voters’ register is key to ensuring a fair electoral process,” he stressed, calling upon all eligible Ugandans to take part in this crucial activity as part of the electoral framework.

On Tuesday, President Museveni, in his capacity as NRM Chairman, wrote to all NRM leaders, including members of the CEC, NEC, District level leaders, NRM MPs, Sub-County level, and Parish level leaders informing them that the National Electoral Commission had announced the electoral roadmap for the 2026 General Elections, which will take place early next year , urging them to mobilise supporters to participate in the electoral processes.

The exercise will commence with the verification and update of voters’ registers between January 20, 2025, and February 10, 2025. During this period, registered voters’ names will be displayed at every polling station in Uganda.
