Rakai||A mob on Friday lynched a pig that killed and partly ate a one-and-a-half-year-old baby, by a family pig.
The incident occurred at Kateera village in Kisaayi parish, Ddwaniro sub-county, leaving the parents and residents shocked.
Peace Tukwasibwe, the baby’s mother was in the kitchen preparing breakfast when the pig entered the house through the back door which was left open.
The swine reached the mattress on which the baby was sleeping ripped her face. It further devoured her lips, left hand and fingers, stomach and flesh on the chest.
According to residents, it is still baffling since the baby did not squeal in pain to attract its mother’s attention.
Benedict Kyeyune, a family friend to the ill-fated family, said that Tukwasibwe had gone back to the house to breastfeed the baby when she found the faceless body in a pool of blood while the pig was still gnawing on the baby’s hand.
He added that it was too late for Tukwasibwe to save the baby, instead, she made an alarm that attracted neighbours to the scene. Her husband was not around at the time of the incident.
“She is still in shock up to now. This is some horrific incident that I have ever seen in my life. I did not know that pigs are such ruthless beasts that can go to that extent,” he said.
He further noted that the family waited for police to approve the burial on but they did not show up which forced them to bury the deceased.
Abraham Muhangi, another resident, explained that other furious residents grabbed the pig and lynched it.
They cut its stomach open and found fingers and some parts of the baby’s body which had not been fully digested. Later, they cut it in pieces and burnt it to ashes.
However, Tom Mulindwa, the sub-county chairperson, confirmed the incident attributing it to the family’s failure to keep the pigs in a sty which exposed the baby to danger.
Samuel Ssewagude, a piggery farmer, said that some pigs are aggressive especially when they are pregnant urging residents to always keep them locked in their pen to avoid similar incidents.
