The Former State Minister for Water Resources, Ronald Kibuule pitched camped at the village of Kasozi-Kanikwa in Kyampisi Sub County at Mukono North Constituency, Mukono District from 9am to 10pm demanding restoration of power line.
The power line serving Bulijjo parish which comprises over nine villages together with some other villages in Nama Sub County have been experiencing power blackout for a period of over two months due to transformer failure.
Solomon Lukeera, the LCI Chairperson of Kanikwa reveals that the community received outage in mid-November which compelled them to report the matter to Umeme limited but only responded by taking away the transformer saying it could not support further supply but did not replace it with a new one.
“Several people’s business such as wielding, beverage shops, saloons, poultry incubators and libraries got affected leaving many workers stranded. We have been petitioning various offices about the matter including our member of parliament, but nothing has been forthcoming.” Lukeera notes.
On Wednesday, the Former Minister, Kibuule visited and decided to camp at Kanikwa village on top of calling and communicating to various officials at Umeme asking them to replace the transformer or find alternative ways of connecting the affected area.
Kibuule visited the place responding to the letter sent to him by the village chairperson on January 21, also assented by ten other signatories affected by the power outage seeking for his intervention.
Although Kibuule arrived at Kwanika in the morning, Umeme responded and installed a new transformer at 10pm then he left the place when power was on.
This website has established that Umeme is overwhelmed by requests to replace transformers in various parts of the country yet only readily available transformers are not more than ten.
Prosy Nandawula, who operates a beverage shop at Kwanika says the outage greatly affected her stalk since people are not interested in taking unfrozen drinks.
She reveals that her earnings from drinks are reduced from Shillings 50, 000 to 10, 000 on a daily basis yet she is supposed to facilitate a Sacco loan she took to buy a new freezer. She pays 40, 000 on a daily basis.
Also Brenda Nakabugo, the owner of Brenda Beauty Salon says the outage has affected her clientele turn-up. She had lately resorted to selling sweets for survival due to the outage in the area.
Community Access to Services
Besides the power outage challenge at Kyampisi Sub County, residents decry access to clean water. Bashir Lumu, a resident at Kanikwa says their former MP, Kibuule had lobbied for connection to the national water grid but ever since he was voted out, the program stalled.
“You walk, travel a distance of about two kilometers, access water or buy a jerrycan at Shillings 1000. We are far from receiving clean water now, even the community taps that had been established are all vandalized.” He notes.
Another resident, Noelin Nambatya, notes that their community is also facing a challenge of poor road network and few drugs at their health center. “How I wish we re-elected Kibuule, at least he would influence grading of the roads and enough supplies at the health center.”
A Call to Contest in 2026
On Wednesda, Kibuule received a heroic welcome at Kyampisi Sub County, residents involving elderly, youths and children swept the road for him to pass as well as chanting his name out loudly.
Anonymously, residents requested Kibuule to stand again as their MP in 2026 saying that his absence has already affected a number of service deliveries in their community, besides convincing representation in parliament.
Response to the Call
“Let me analyze your request and with time I shall see what to do. However, your cry for service delivery is answered. Whether I am an MP or not, I have again decided to lobby for you, stand in various gaps whenever needed.”
He adds; “We started the journey of development together, sitting back to look at stunted growth taking over various communities in Mukono North County hurts me. I was born to be your servant leader.”
Kibuule was among the prominent working members of parliament under the ruling party of the National Resistance Movement-NRM who did not survive the National Unity Platform-NUP wave in the recent general elections.
