The Democratic Party President Nobert Mao has organized a bereavement session at Mukono which he instead used to address a faction of democratic party members.
Following the current restrictions on open campaigns and public gatherings by the electoral commission due to Covid-19, DP leaders belonging to a faction headed by the municipal mayor George Fred Kagimu failed to organize a political meeting fearing to attract security attention.
The meeting that was scheduled to be presided over by the DP president at Mukono municipal offices has instead been shifted to the family of the late Eric Mutasiga a people power supporter who died as a result of shooting by police last month.
Some of kagimu’s faction stalwarts who have reported to the municipal headquarters have been directed to Mutasiga’s home by the mayor claiming that police did not authorize them to hold a public meeting.
“We cannot hold a meeting; the president is only going to visit Mutasiga’s family to convey his condolences. Whoever wants to see him doing so should go there.” Mayor said.
By the time Mao reached about 60 DP stalwarts had convened for a session where he briefed them about the current status of the party and then he left. Surprisingly, Mao left without giving in anything related to condolence as he promised before coming to Mukono.
