Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda has directed its editorial teams to suspend online publishing and broadcasting as discussions with the government over the closure of its media outlets continue.

In an internal communication to staff, management said no online publications or broadcasts should be made for the time being, warning that doing so could jeopardize the ongoing engagements with state authorities aimed at resolving the impasse.

The directive comes hours after the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met NMG owner Rostam Aziz, senior company officials and other stakeholders at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe to discuss the closure of the company’s outlets, including NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor.

According to the management communication, the company is uncertain about how soon the matter will be resolved, despite earlier hopes for a swift outcome.

Management urged employees to remain calm and patient while the company’s top leadership continues negotiations with the state.

The communication also reaffirmed NMG’s commitment to independent journalism once its operations resume. However, management acknowledged that the organization would continue to operate within Uganda’s prevailing media environment.

The latest development suggests that negotiations between the government and Nation Media Group are still ongoing, with the reopening of the company’s outlets yet to be determined.
