Mukono District is experiencing a surge in nightlife and mass gatherings as entertainment venues and event organisers relocate activities from Kampala and Wakiso following stricter enforcement of public health directives linked to the recent Ebola virus scare.
Authorities at the Ministry of Health have previously issued notices restricting or prohibiting large gatherings, including concerts, parties, and public entertainment events, as part of precautionary measures aimed at reducing potential transmission risks.
The Ministry advised continued vigilance and compliance with public health guidelines, including avoiding overcrowded events and ensuring appropriate safety protocols where gatherings are unavoidable.
However, enforcement in some surrounding districts appears inconsistent, with Mukono increasingly becoming a hotspot for events that were earlier halted or discouraged in Kampala and Wakiso.
Several entertainment venues have intensified promotions and hosted large crowds in recent days. Among them is Governor Hotel, the nightclub The HIVE, which, together with other clubs such as Club One, has reportedly organised post-match entertainment events featuring local artists following high profile football screenings, including matches like Arsenal versus PSG.
At the same time, concerns have also been raised over a mass crusade scheduled at Collin Hotel, drawing large numbers of participants.
According to local observers, some of these events are proceeding without clear confirmation of full health clearance or strict adherence to recommended public health safeguards.
Public health officials and community leaders have previously warned that large, poorly regulated gatherings could undermine efforts to control potential outbreaks, especially in high traffic urban and peri urban areas.
While no official confirmation has been issued linking any of the ongoing events to violations, questions remain about the consistency of enforcement between districts.
Residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some welcoming nightlife and social activity, while others fear that the relaxation or weak enforcement of restrictions could increase public health risks.
Security and health authorities in Mukono have not yet issued a comprehensive statement on the reported events, but officials are expected to step up monitoring as concerns grow over compliance with national health directives.
