The police in Lwengo district have arrested a woman along with her daughter and herdsman for allegedly killing her 60-year-old husband.
The gruesome incident occurred on Monday night in their marital home in Kyetume village in Lwengo Rural sub-county.
It is said the Sophia Kobusingye and her daughter Fazirah Namatovu plus their herdsman only identified as Muzeeyi used an axe and other blunt objects to kill Sheik Ahmed Kasumba, a prominent livestock trader.
It is said that the trio first sedated Kasumba before executing their horrible mission.
But the concerned neighbours, who heard the scuffle inside the house, notified the village council authorities who reached the ill-fated home.
They entered the house and found Kasumba’s body lying dead on the flow in a pool of his blood prompting them to call police.
However, police arrived in time to rescue the suspects from the mob that wanted to lynch them for their alleged crime.
ASP Muhammad Nsubuga, the Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed having the three suspects in custody at Mbiriizi police station.
According to Nsubuga, preliminary the information shows that the couple had a sour relationship after it emerged that Kasumba was planning to marry a second wife in the Islamic faith.
“He was intending to marry the second wife anytime this month as the Islamic faith permits him which annoyed Kobusingye who latter planned the worst,” he said.
It is also said that the area Local Council had earlier intervened in the dispute but Kobusingye refused to calm down.
More information revealed by the neighbours also indicate that Kasumba was receiving constant threats from Kobusingye from the time he opened up about his plan.
Nsubuga added that the suspects face charges of murder but the investigations will determine the fate.
Already, police have retrieved the axe and other objects which were used in the crime as exhibits and the suspects are likely to appear in court anytime.
“We already have the blood-stained axe and other objects which were used to kill Kasumba. In the meantime we are waiting for technical guidance on how to handle the case as fast as we can,” he noted.
A postmortem was done immediately and the family members allowed to proceed with the burial.
In Kalungu, the police are looking for assailants and killed a 47-year old man and peeled off his face.
The shocking incident happened on Valentine’s Day in Kijjomanyi village when residents found Joseph Ssentongo’s faceless body by the roadside.
It is said that Ssentongo was last seen in a local bar at around 9pm during a drinking spree.
According to residents, he was attacked on his way back home and murdered by unknown assailants.
The killers also took his eyes, tongue, throat and brain, before tossing his body by the roadside.
Neighbours to the scene of the crime say they did not notice any scuffle or hear Ssentongo screaming.
Police said they can’t rule out witchcraft since it is unusual for the killers to peel off the victims’ faces. However, the body has been taken to a mortuary pending a post mortem.
The region has so far registered several gruesome murders in two months with five murders in Lwengo, one in Bukomansimbi, and the most recent one in Kalungu.
