Moses Nsereko has finally been nominated for the Kawempe North MP by-election.
On Wednesday, Nsereko was turned away by the Electoral Commission because his documents were incomplete.
On the second day of nominations, Nsereko, who is contesting as an independent candidate after failing to secure the NUP party ticket, arrived at the EC offices at 8:30 am.
He became the first aspirant to be nominated with all the required documents.
After his nomination, Nsereko said that he would uplift the well-being of the underprivileged people in Kawempe North.
He also added that he intends to focus on job creation, especially for people in the informal settlements, if elected as a Member of Parliament.
Ismail Musiitwa of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) was also nominated pledging to unite the people of Kawempe.
He stressed that when Mohammed Ssegirinya died the people of Kawempe North became divided which was evident at his burial in Masaka.
Meanwhile, Hamza Ddamulira, another aspirant and a student at Metropolitan International University, also a resident of Kyebando Central, failed to be nominated by the EC.
Ddamulira could not produce the receipt of payment for the three million shillings required from each candidate.
Ddamulira, 26 said that he couldn’t afford the three million and called for the amendment of the electoral laws to allow more people to exercise their right to participate in the elections.
Ddamulira also lacked a postcard photo and the required 10 people from the constituency to second his nomination.
Muhamood Mutazindwa was also turned away for missing some of the required documents, such as IDs and other documents.
Henry Makabai, the Returning Officer for Kampala, urged candidates to come prepared with all the necessary documents.
He also advised candidates to use the time allocated to them appropriately, so as not to inconvenience other candidates participating in the same exercise.
On day one, four candidates were nominated. They are Hanifah Karadi, an independent, Mohammed Luswa Luwemba, who was Ssegirinya’s aide, was nominated as an independent candidate.
Others are Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola who holding NUP ticket and Forum for Democratic Changes’ Sadat Mukiibi aka Aganaga.
