Rebecca Kadaga, Uganda’s First Deputy Premier and Kamuli District Woman MP, has hinted that someone connected to the government might be plotting to kill her. She shared this during an event where she helps elderly people by listening to their issues and trying to address them.
Kadaga’s concerns came after Buzaya MP Martin Muzaale complained about being targeted by gangs hired by his opponents. According to Muzaale, these gangs, often in groups of five, have been attacking his supporters and causing trouble at public events.
Kadaga mentioned that there have been two specific assassination attempts on her life:
The Truck Plot: A plan was made to set up a meeting with sugarcane farmers who were supposed to drive their trucks into Kadaga’s convoy on the Jinja-Kamuli highway, making it look like a road accident.
The Fake Money Dealers Plot: Another scheme involved hiring fake money dealers to create chaos and then kill Kadaga, trying to make it look like it was done by confused youth.
She claimed that the conspirators were given Shs15 million for these plans, but the plots were uncovered before they could be carried out.
Kadaga did not say whether she has reported these threats to the police or if she has increased her security. Instead, she urged for peace during the election period.
Busoga North Police Spokesperson Michael Kasadha said they can only act if Kadaga files an official complaint. He confirmed that they are looking into Muzaale’s claims and the attacks on his supporters.
Political analyst Stephen Muzusa warned that violence in politics could prevent young people from participating and making informed choices, which could harm democracy.
