Police in Mabira forest is investigating the cause of an accident last night that led to the death of one person identified as Farah Muhammed a driver of a fuel truck Reg. No. KBS 218A/ZD 3227 M/Benz.
Muhammad who was driving from Kampala to Jinja side collided with a Fuso truck Reg. No. UBA 833Q that was coming from Jinja to Kampala driven by Wilson Jjemba.
The accident occurred at around 9pm at Lwankima- Mabira along jinja- Kampala highway. The fuel truck driver died on spot and his body taken to Kawolo hospital mortuary while as the Fuso truck driver is also admitted to Kawolo hospital for treatment under critical condition.
According to John Ssentaayi a resident at Lwankima, both trucks must have been moving at very high speed. He explains that they collided with the fuel truck pushing the fuso off the road into a drainage.
“It is the trucks forefronts that got much damaged and it was difficult for the drivers not to get injured. The most luck these people got is that fuel tank did not get damaged which would cause fire.” Ssentaayi explains.
The Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson Hellen Butoto a case has been entered at Mabira Police Station, scene visited and the two trucks parked at Mabira police yard as inquiries are ongoing.
Anna Maria Mbatudde a resident at Najjembe Sub County says much Kampala-Jinja road is a highway but there is always a reckless driving especially by the truck drivers.
“I suspect some of them use drugs along the way when you look at the accidents they make especially here in Mabira section; some do not knock or collide with others but they usually overturn trucks. It comes in the morning when a truck got off the road.” Mbatudde says.
