The Diocese of Muhabura has signed a Shs1.15 billion contract with Fabrication Systems Uganda Limited for the roofing of its new cathedral, marking a major milestone in the construction of what is expected to become one of the largest worship centres in the Kigezi sub-region.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two parties, the roofing works are valued at Shs1,154,852,478 and are scheduled for completion within 52 weeks.
Diocesan Secretary Rev. Stephen Ruzaza described the agreement as a significant step in the realization of the cathedral project, which is designed to accommodate more than 3,000 worshippers.
“This marks the beginning of a crucial phase of construction. We are optimistic that the contractor will deliver quality work within the agreed timeframe,” Rev. Ruzaza said.
The Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, appealed to Christians, well-wishers and development partners to continue supporting fundraising efforts aimed at completing the project.
“This cathedral belongs to the entire Christian community. A hand that gives is a hand that receives,” Bishop Mbitse said, noting that roofing works will commence immediately.
He added that, once completed, the cathedral will serve not only as a centre of worship but also as an important spiritual and community landmark for the Diocese.
Representing Fabrication Systems Uganda Limited, Bipin Loharuka assured the Diocese that the company possesses the technical expertise and capacity to execute the roofing works and complete them within the stipulated period.
Engineer Benoni Nteziryayo of J&B Technical Services, the main contractor overseeing the project, said the cathedral is poised to become one of the largest houses of worship in the Kigezi region.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to host thousands of congregants and provide a venue for major religious celebrations, diocesan events and other community activities.
