Lydia Namayengo the daughter-in-law to Betty Nambooze Bakireke has finally dropped her political ambitions in favour of peaceful marriage.
Namayengo married to Peter Njuba expressed intentions to stand for the position of Mukono District Woman Member of Parliament in the forthcoming general elections under National Unity Platform.
However, the vetting committee denied her the party ticket in favour of Hanifer Nabukeera who was endorsed for the position by Nambooze.
Since then, Namayengo got involved in serious rattle with her mother-in-law for unflattering her political ambitions.
A source close to Nambooze revealed to us that Namayengo was summoned in a family meeting where she was tasked to think of the future of the children. She was also promised to succeed Nambooze on condition that she steps down.
“After several discussions with eminent leaders in our great party, our elders in Mukono, our spiritual leaders and our family elders, I have painfully decided to drop the idea of contesting as an independent candidate in the forthcoming election.” Namayengo notes.
She has now committed to convincing other members nominated as independent candidates on various local government positions.
“To all colleagues who were not satisfied with the candidate selection criteria and process, I kindly ask you to take this brave step and focus on aggregating our forces against a common enemy. I know what it means but yes, it takes sacrifice and bravery especially in the face of glaring injustice. This is what exemplary leadership and maturity demands!! There is no winner in a sinking boat! It is a test that all of us have to pass and move on.”
The move is already protested by now independent candidates saying calling Namayengo a betrayer; for they agreed to continue with the struggle to prove the injustices exhibited during the vetting process.
