After bad mouthing the Mukono Diocesan Bishop James William Ssebaggala accusing him for conniving with her Democratic Party rival and incumbent Mayor, George Fred Kagimu to repossess land belonging to Bishop Schools from the government with intentions of selling it to private developers, Nambooze has now shifted the battle to lay leaders.
Responding to Ebenezer Bainomugisha a lay leader attached to Kasawo Church of Uganda, Nambooze has noted that the church is now advancing satanic work against her during this campaigning time.
“As the area MP of Mukono, I protested the continued sell of school land in a clever plan of having the Municipal council surrender schools back to the church for development,” Nambooze notes.
Bainomugisha posted on his facebook wall calling upon Christians to stop voting into power leaders who disrespect the church and men of God.
The schools included Bishop East, Central and West primary schools that were established in 1910 close to the diocesan headquarters in Mukono Central Division.
Nambooze claims that Kagimu duped the municipal council to pass a resolution removing the schools from government jurisdiction to church management.
In March 2016, the church came under fire from parents mobilized by Nambooze to protest the move of combining Bishop Central and East to form a single day primary school and the decision to reclaim Bishop West and place it under the diocese as a private boarding school so as to improve their performance.
Over the weekend, the Mukono Diocesan Secretary, Canon John Ssebudde faulted Nambooze for dragging the Bishop in her political campaigns.
He explains that schools have greatly transformed by registering first grade when the diocese took over the management of Bishop West primary school.
“The diocese has enough projects to fund its schools and has always managed to pay teachers on time. There was no sense in maintaining three poor performing government schools in the same area.” Canon Ssebudde noted.
The Diocesan Provost Rev Canon Enos Kagodo wonders why the MP would falsely accuse the Bishop of selling church land yet he has spent almost the years of his ministry fighting to reclaim church land in different parts of the diocese.
“The Bishop is hated for evicting encroachers on church land in different archdeaconries. He would use the opportunity to instead get money from the encroachers to maintain them on the contested land. Nambooze should focus on assessing what she has promised and done for Mukono people than sowing hatred,” Canon Kagodo notes.
During the celebrations of Bishop Ssebaggala’s tenth anniversary as the Bishop of Mukono Diocese, the Archbishop of the Province of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Steven Kazimba Mugalu commended him for transforming the outlook of Bishop Schools and their performance.
The Diocesan Lawyer Ronald Musoke advises Nambooze to stop belittling the diocese and its top leader. He challenges her to produce evidence that church intended or sold off school land or else stop spreading false propaganda against the church and its leaders.
According to Musoke the church has the mandate to manage its properties in a manner that rightful procedures are followed.
The decision to reclaim the Bishop schools was anonymously passed by the diocesan synod which covers four political districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buikwe and Buvuma Islands.
The diocese of 8 Archdeaconries with 64 parishes and 611 churches is governed by the Diocesan synod, council, secretariat, board of directors, archdeaconries, parish councils and grass root church committees.
