Former Mawokota South MP Yusufu Nsibambi has pledged to finance the construction of police stations in all sub-counties across Mpigi District as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve access to police services.
Nsibambi made the pledge during a security meeting held at Kayabwe Town Council, which was convened by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abas Byakagaba following an invitation by the Minister of State for Tourism and Mawokota South MP Suzan Nakawuki to address security concerns in the area.
Nsibambi said his commitment to improving security in the district remained unchanged despite losing the parliamentary election, in which he received no votes at some polling stations.
He noted that although residents had not given him electoral support in those polling stations, their safety remained important and should not be affected by political differences.
“Much as voters gave me zero votes at polling stations, their security is still important,” Nsibambi said.
He pledged to support the construction of police stations across the district’s lower local governments, saying he was willing to work with political and security leaders to improve the welfare and safety of residents.
Nsibambi also disclosed that before losing the election, he had purchased a trailer-load of security lights intended to improve security in the community but had decided to retain them following the election outcome.
However, he told local leaders and the IGP that he remained available for discussions on initiatives aimed at improving the community.
“I am not going to stand again for elective position,” he said.
Mpigi District comprises two parliamentary constituencies, Mawokota North and Mawokota South, and nine lower local governments, including Mpigi, Buwama and Kayabwe Town Councils, as well as Kammengo, Kiringente, Muduuma, Buwama, Nkozi and Kituntu sub-counties.
Meanwhile, Byakagaba pledged to deploy additional police officers and operational equipment to the district to strengthen crime prevention and improve public safety.
He urged residents to embrace the Sub-county Policing Model, emphasising the importance of community participation and timely sharing of information with security agencies.
“The fight against crime requires close cooperation between the Police and the public. Community members should actively participate in identifying and reporting suspicious activities to help prevent and combat crime,” Byakagaba said.
As an immediate intervention, the IGP handed over a Land Cruiser pickup to support police operations in the area, improve officers’ mobility and enhance their response to security incidents.
He also pledged additional personnel and logistical support, including a K9 unit, motorcycles and communication equipment, to strengthen surveillance and police operations at sub-county police stations.
“We are committed to strengthening police operations through additional manpower and logistical support to improve response to security incidents and enhance service delivery,” Byakagaba said.
The proposed deployments are intended to address security concerns raised by residents, increase police visibility and strengthen crime prevention in Kayabwe and neighbouring areas.
Byakagaba was accompanied by the Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General of Police Frank Mwesigwa.
The meeting forms part of the Uganda Police Force’s community engagement initiatives aimed at identifying security challenges and developing practical interventions to improve public safety.
