Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna,

The chairman of the Indian Community in Jinja, Pius Kotecha, has praised the Yogi Group of Companies, particularly Yogi Steel Company and Victoria Plastics, for their continued support towards national blood donation campaigns aimed at strengthening Uganda’s blood reserves.

Speaking during a meeting attended by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Kotecha said the Indian Community has maintained a strong partnership with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service in organising nationwide blood donation drives.

He noted that Yogi Group has consistently stood out as a reliable partner by regularly mobilising its workforce to participate in the exercise whenever campaigns are conducted.

“We have visited Yogi Steel Company several times, and they have always mobilised their workers to donate blood. This year, we shall return again as we work towards our target of collecting 10,000 litres of blood,” Kotecha said.

He further revealed that the Indian Community has also been actively involved in community health interventions, including the organisation of free medical camps that have benefited thousands of Ugandans. According to him, the most recent outreach programme reached more than 20,000 people.

Speaking at the same event, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, commended the Indian Community for its contribution to Uganda’s economic transformation through investment, industrial development and job creation.

He urged members of the community to remain mindful in their public communication while reaffirming government’s commitment to maintaining a conducive environment for investors.

“I have also been appointed to head the business community in the Patriotic League of Uganda, and my role is to assure you that Uganda is safe for investment,” Tanna said.

The minister highlighted Uganda’s vast investment opportunities, particularly in the mining sector, including gold, copper and cobalt. He also noted the country’s growing steel industry, with several integrated steel mills already established, including in Jinja.

He called on the business community to expand their investments in Uganda to boost employment creation and broaden the tax base.

“Let us bring more investments, create more jobs and continue supporting Uganda’s economic transformation. We are paying taxes, but government is asking whether we can do even more to contribute to national development,” he said.
