Uganda has received the body of Timothy Muganzi Magambo, the eldest son of Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Director, Assistant Inspector General of Police Tom Magambo, following his tragic death in the United States.
Timothy’s body arrived at Entebbe International Airport in the early hours of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at about 2:00am aboard a commercial flight from New York. It was received on behalf of the family by State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara and close family members.
The 18-year-old reportedly drowned on Saturday while swimming with friends at a beach in New York, where he had been studying.
Timothy was the first-born son of AIGP Magambo and his wife, Carol Magambo. Family friends described him as humble, bright and ambitious, with a promising future ahead of him.
According to a eulogy issued by Pelham Funeral Home, Timothy had just completed his first year at the University at Albany, where he was pursuing a degree in Business Management and Finance.
The eulogy noted that Timothy was born in Uganda on September 24, 2007, and spent part of his childhood in Kampala and Rwanda before relocating to Pelham, New York, at the age of seven.
Meanwhile, funeral arrangements released by the family indicate that a requiem mass will be held today at 9:00am at Our Lady of Africa Catholic Church in Mbuya, Kampala, before the body is transported to Masindi District for burial preparations.
An official vigil is scheduled for Wednesday at the Magambo family home in Kisarabwire Cell, Masindi Municipality, beginning at 4:00pm.
Burial will take place on May 28 at the family’s ancestral home in Kisarabwire, Masindi, following a requiem mass at St. Jude Catholic Church Parish starting at 1:00pm.
The death of Timothy has drawn condolences from government officials, security agencies and members of the public, many describing the incident as a painful loss to the family.
